So this is what happened to Nightwind during Luna's banishment. After loosing the rebellion, he had Luna's student, Astrid, put the Moon Stone curse on him. He takes the form of a stone statue except in the light of the full moon. He lives like this through the 1000 years until Luna's powers fully awaken and removes the curse. But even with the curse in place, he still aged about 10 years, since the time under the full moon adds.
